Compelled to leave the Dallas police force after killing a convicted rapist in a dark alley, tough and sexy Claudia Cruz becomes an operative with Avalon, a clandestine organization of mercenaries who recover stolen art. But her new career choice pits her against the darkly intense FBI agent Vincent DeLuca, who is determined that this time, Avalon is not going to beat out the Feds.
A MAN WHO'S HER MATCH AND MORE
While Claudia seethes about this irritating man who gives as good as he gets, Vincent is discovering there's a fine line between love and hate. And though Claudia is willing to use their crazy-hot attraction to achieve her goals, she never intended they'd end up in bed together. She's always lived on the edge and flirted with danger...but this time the worst danger may be to her heart. Description taken from here.
You can get Michele Albert's Her Last Chance in either mass market paperback or ereader format.
My Review:
Albert drew me into her story within just the first few pages. I love a story that does that to me. Actually, to be honest, if a book doesn't capture my attention within the first chapter or two, I usually discard it. (That is, unless I have to finish reading it for school or a review.) Anyways, I really liked Claudia's character. I have always prefered kick-ass women to the 'help me' ones in books and TV shows. When I was little, I wanted to grow up and be tough, someone that people knew not to mess with. This was probably on account that I grew up watching soap operas with my grandma and mom. The soaps we watched had hot mafia men and women who wore leather and took care of themselfs.
Anyways, back to the book: I really liked Claudia's character because of this. And FBI agent Vincent (what a hot name!) was pretty awesome too. He knew what he wanted, but it conflicted with the whole 'good vs. bad'. If you are confused, let me fill you in: Claudia works for a guy who hired her to steal, kill, etc. Vincent, which I already mentioned, is an FBI agent.
The story came together nicely. Turns out, Claudia isn't really the bad guy (gal). Plot was interesting, it held my attention. The relationship between Claudia and Vincent was cute and funny, definetly made the story.
